How do I clear my browser’s cache and cookies?

The steps for clearing your browser’s cache and cookies differ by brand. Below are the steps for the most popular browsers.

Note: Depending on how frequently you clear your browsing history, this process may take several minutes.

Internet Explorer 8 for Windows

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools menu. (If you don’t see the menu, press the Alt button on your keyboard to show it.)
  3. Select Delete Browsing History…
  4. Check Temporary Internet files.
  5. Check Cookies.
  6. Click Delete.
  7. Once the files have been deleted, click Okay.

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the browser bar, type chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
  3. Select the beginning of time from the Obliterate the following items drop-down menu.
  4. Check Cached images and file and Cookies and other site and plug-in data.
  5. Click Clear browsing data.

Firefox for Windows and Mac OS X

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click the Tools menu. (If you don’t see the menu, press the Alt button on your keyboard to show it.)
  3. Select Clear Recent History.
  4. Select Everything from the Time Range to Clear, drop-down menu.
  5. Check Details.
  6. Check Cache.
  7. Check Cookies.
  8. Click Clear Now.

Safari for Windows and for Mac OS X

  1. Open Safari
  2. Click the Safari menu.
  3. Select Reset Safari…
  4. Check Empty the cache and Remove all cookies.
  5. Click Reset.
